Skout Organic: From Trail Days To Cookie Breaks
What began as a homemade trail bar grew into a colorful collection of organic snacks, with taste still leading the way.
Shop Skout OrganicBefore the bright wrappers and cookie boxes, there was a homemade bar packed for a Pacific Northwest excursion. Skout Organic’s story starts there in 2009: something good to eat, somewhere good to go, and a recipe worth making again.
The Trailhead
A Homemade Beginning With Room To Grow
Skout describes itself as small but mighty. Its beginnings were modest too, with homemade trail bars baked for days outdoors rather than a broad lineup designed all at once.
The recipes kept developing. By 2018, the team had landed in Austin, Texas, bringing fresh momentum to its snack-making ambitions. Protein Bars became part of that next chapter, followed by Kids Snack Bars in 2019.
The setting had changed, but the central idea was still recognizable: use organic ingredients to make snacks people genuinely want to eat.

Flavor Comes First
Simple Does Not Have To Mean Plain
Skout’s promise is organic, plant-based, and simple, but its starting point is taste. Familiar ingredients are the means, not a reason to settle for something less enjoyable.
The brand describes its bars as using seven or fewer ingredients, with dates providing their base and sweetness. Chocolate Brownie makes that approach easy to picture: dates, coconut cream, cocoa powder, sunflower seed protein powder, and vanilla extract create a five-ingredient bar with a fudgy character.
The Peanut Butter & Jelly Protein Bar takes another familiar flavor combination and builds it from dates, peanut flour, peanut butter, strawberries, and strawberry essence. Its product listing specifies 10 grams of plant-based protein per bar.
These are compact recipes with recognizable personalities, not simply the same snack dressed in different wrappers.
Then Came Cookies
A Different Kind Of Afternoon Favorite
When Soft-Baked Cookies joined the lineup in 2023, Skout gave its snack philosophy a different texture. The collection brings together flavors such as Oatmeal Chocolate Chip, Double Chocolate, Peanut Butter, and Lemon Poppyseed.
Lemon Poppyseed, created in collaboration with Shawna Holman of A Little Less Toxic, pairs bright lemon flavor with poppy seeds. Its recipe includes coconut sugar, maple syrup, and date syrup alongside ingredients such as cassava and oat flours.
That is a useful distinction: the short ingredient lists and date-based sweetness described for the bars are not blanket claims for every cookie. Each recipe has its own character and its own label.
The Standards Behind The Snacks
Organic, Vegan, And Gluten-Free
Skout states that its snacks are certified organic by Oregon Tilth, certified vegan through Vegan.org, and certified gluten-free by the Gluten Free Certification Organization.
Those commitments sit alongside its ingredient-sourcing work, including sourcing gluten-free oats for recipes that use them. The result is a range built around plant-based ingredients without giving up cookie-inspired flavors or soft-baked textures.
Certifications answer particular questions. For food allergies, the individual ingredient list and allergen statement still matter: this collection includes peanut and almond recipes, and both the Chocolate Brownie bar and Lemon Poppyseed cookies list coconut.
The Fun Of A Limited Run
Small Batch Keeps Things Interesting
Skout introduced Small Batch flavors in 2021 as a place to experiment with new combinations. The team describes seeking out organic ingredients for recipes made in limited quantities, with flavors coming and going rather than becoming permanent fixtures.
The brand says it often hears “please save me a box” when someone finds a new favorite. It is a fitting detail for a company that keeps making room for a little novelty alongside the familiar.
Small Batch bundles and variety packs offer a way to explore the selections listed here. Check the individual product for the included flavors, since a limited-run recipe is not a promise of ongoing availability.
Still Ready To Go Somewhere
From The Trail To The Everyday
The distance between a homemade trail bar and a Lemon Poppyseed cookie is not as great as it might look. Both start with the same question: can a snack be made from thoughtfully chosen ingredients and still be something you look forward to?
Skout has spent the years since 2009 answering with new recipes, smaller bars, protein options, and cookies. The adventures now include family afternoons and ordinary snack breaks as well as time outdoors.
Pack a familiar favorite or try something new. There is still a little of that original trail-day spirit in finding out what tastes good next.
Check the current package ingredients and allergen information for your chosen flavor. Vegan and gluten-free do not mean nut-free or suitable for every food allergy. Follow any age-appropriate serving guidance on the product.
