A lifelong athlete, Alex was used to thinking of himself as fit. Yet he recalls waking up feeling off and struggling to find an answer. His interest in the differences between mouth and nasal breathing eventually became the starting point for a product idea.

From A Question To A Design Challenge

Reading about James Nestor’s breathing experiment at Stanford prompted Alex to look more closely at mouth tape. He describes a personal experience that felt different enough to inspire a longer search for materials and construction.

The challenge he chose to work on was specific: create tape with a comfortable feel and a fit designed to accommodate facial hair. Years of testing fabrics and adhesives became part of Hostage Tape’s development story.
