Since 2001, Angelina Organic Skincare — aos for short — has been making skincare that is as honest as it is effective. Founded by Angelina, a research-obsessed scientist and herbalist raised among the Sonoran desert botanicals, aos blends traditional herbal wisdom with rigorous plant-based science.

Rooted In The Sonoran Desert

Angelina's story begins in the spectacular and demanding landscape of the Arizona desert, a place that shaped her curiosity about plants and their power to support the skin. As a budding botanist, she spent her childhood exploring the desert preserve near her home and learning the names and uses of the plants she encountered.

That early fascination led her to study botany, ecology, and human biology. A chance encounter with Anita Roddick, founder of The Body Shop, while Angelina was working at one of their stores lit the final spark. She signed up for her first salve-making class and never looked back.

The Skin Doctor Salve: Where It All Began

Angelina's first product was born on a river. Running rafting and rock-climbing expeditions on weekends, her hands and feet took a beating from constant exposure to the elements. She formulated the Skin Doctor Salve to solve her own painfully dry, cracked skin.

Nearly three decades later, it remains one of aos's most beloved products, recognized by devoted customers as a deeply comforting plant-based salve. The origin story reflects the aos philosophy perfectly: every formula starts with a real problem and ends with a considered botanical solution.

Small Farms, Fair Trade, Full-Circle Sourcing

aos does not just use organic ingredients. The brand traces them back to their source, working with small biodynamic farms and Fair-Trade cooperatives to find bioavailable botanicals and support growers who tend their land with care.

From A Log Cabin Kitchen To A Thriving Apothecary

aos grew slowly, organically, and with help from its community. Angelina started by selling at local farmers markets and building a small online store, with her children labeling products at the dining room table.

Over time, she converted a cottage into a lab and retail store surrounded by herb gardens, opened an aos spa in downtown Bend, Oregon, and grew her team. She also became the first skincare supplier for a major national distributor selling exclusively to physicians and created bespoke lines for spas across the country.

Back To Roots: Doing Fewer Things Better

In 2023, after years of running wholesale, retail, a spa, and an online store at the same time, Angelina made a bold decision to simplify. The spa and retail store closed with a celebration, and aos returned to what it does best: sourcing exceptional botanical ingredients and crafting thoughtful skincare by hand, unhurried.

A new light-filled warehouse gave the team room to breathe and refocus. Choosing quality over endless expansion is the kind of integrity that makes aos worth trusting with your skin.
