Lockhart's Authentic: A True Rags to Riches Story of Art, Community, and Pomade

At Daily Health & Beauty, we’re proud to carry Lockhart's Authentic, a grooming company with a story as distinctive as its pomades, beard oils, shave soaps, and styling products.

Founded by Steve and Nichole Lockhart, the brand grew from two young newlyweds trying to find their way in the world into a globally recognized apothecary built on creativity, persistence, and a belief that community matters more than competition.

From A Car Lot To A Kitchen

Steve’s downtown Flint barber encouraged him to keep going and develop a complete line of products. That professional support gave Steve the confidence to take his experiments seriously.

As word spread, more people wanted to try what he was making. Steve and Nichole opened a simple Etsy shop to get their products into friends’ hands, and customers from around the world soon began asking for new formulas and sharing feedback.

The Everything Pomade Community

Customer feedback led to more development in the Lockharts’ own kitchen. They built a following organically online and created the Facebook group “Everything Pomade” to gather even more ideas directly from the people using their products.

The brand’s philosophy was never just about making one more pomade. It was about creating a place for people to compare techniques, challenge formulas, discover new favorites, and connect with each other.

From Car Sales To Full-Time Passion

Lockhart's wholesale business expanded across the globe, and Steve eventually left car sales to work on the brand full time. As the product line and number of accounts grew, the home kitchen could no longer keep up.

The next chapter took shape in downtown Perry, Michigan, a small town with a population of about 2,000. The Lockharts opened their own apothecary there, keeping the brand’s production close to its community-first roots.

Products As A Creative Canvas

Steve’s background as a nationally recognized Stuckist artist gives Lockhart's Authentic a distinctive creative point of view. He once spent his free time painting and sketching. Today, with two young daughters, he pours that creativity into his products.

Hybridizing formulas and testing new combinations are a major part of the process. There is trial and error, but that hands-on approach can lead to unique results that large-scale lab production might never discover.
