Ambrosia Long-Life Linen: Jan’s Garden Harvest Becomes A Family Ritual
A grandmother’s icebox memory inspired reusable linen bags for the produce you bring home.
Shop Ambrosia ↓One summer evening in 2016, Jan Rem came in from her garden with a generous harvest of basil and a familiar problem: how to keep it fresh. At sixty-two, she found the beginning of a new idea in an old family memory.
Her grandmother’s icebox had always held greens wrapped in linen. Jan remembered that simple practice and wondered what it could become in her own kitchen.
A Seamstress’s Answer
Jan was no stranger to making things by hand. A lifelong seamstress, she had often sewn clothes for her children. This time, she sat down in the sewing room of the family’s modest Ojai home and stitched the first Ambrosia Bag.
A later visit to historic linen mills in Europe deepened her appreciation for the textile. Linen became the heart of the work, connecting a remembered kitchen practice with a reusable product for everyday food storage.
Under The Live Oaks
Growing Through Conversation
Jan and her husband Norm began sharing the bags at the Ojai Farmers Market. Under the live oaks, they spoke with families about caring for the food they brought home.
The following grew one conversation at a time. The bag was practical, but the idea behind it was personal: take a little more care with what feeds us.
The Next Family Chapter
In 2021, their child Jordan Grieg joined the family business, bringing a sales background and an interest in sustainability and urban farming.
In Jordan’s account, Jan and Norm continue packing orders from the Ojai workshop, while Jordan works on bringing Ambrosia into more kitchens across America and beyond.
The family describes the business as something larger than a produce bag: a way to make small, thoughtful choices that feel good to use.
A Textile With A Practical Role
The brand identifies the bag body as one hundred percent raw European flax linen, chosen for breathability and everyday durability. Its product descriptions focus on the relationship between airflow and moisture in produce storage.
Different foods need different conditions. The bags are designed to support those conditions, not provide a fixed freshness deadline or make aging produce new again.
Ambrosia also describes Southern California craftsmanship and fair wages as priorities. Reuse and thoughtful sourcing belong to its wider mission, without needing to promise a measured environmental saving for every kitchen.
Find A Bag For What You Buy
Leafy Greens
The standard bag is designed around greens’ need for moisture and airflow. The XL version adds room for larger heads and bunches, with listed dimensions of fourteen by seven by 6.5 inches.
Everyday Vegetables
The Vegetable Bag is described for produce such as carrots, cucumbers, beets, celery, and squash. A dedicated place for the vegetables you reach for throughout the week.
Delicate Berries
The Berry Bag is designed to allow airflow and absorb excess surface moisture. The Complete Set guidance specifies using this bag dry on a refrigerator shelf.
Mushrooms
The Mushroom Bag emphasizes airflow and excess-moisture management. The set directions also specify dry storage on a refrigerator shelf for this format.

Explore Ambrosia ↓Fresh Herbs, With Their Own Place
The Fresh Herb Bag returns to the kind of kitchen problem that started the story. Its listing describes a cool, gently moist refrigerator environment for herbs such as cilantro, parsley, dill, mint, and chives.
Follow the current directions for the specific herb you are storing rather than assume every herb behaves the same way.
A Set Built Around Different Produce
The Complete Set describes four bags for leafy greens, vegetables, berries, and mushrooms. It gives you a starting system, while the separately listed herb and XL greens options let you choose around your own shopping habits.
That distinction helps keep the choice simple: buy for what fills your fridge, not just for the largest bundle.

Small Habits Around The Weekly Shop
Sort By Food: Choose the appropriate bag for greens, vegetables, berries, mushrooms, or herbs.
Match The Moisture: The Complete Set instructions recommend slightly moist greens and vegetable bags in the crisper, and dry berry and mushroom bags on a shelf. Follow individual directions for other formats.
Keep Food In View: Check produce regularly and use more delicate items first. A storage bag is support for the routine, not a reason to ignore freshness.
Care For The Linen: Follow the supplied washing and drying instructions, keeping bags clean between uses. The current descriptions do not specify a full laundering method, so use the product’s own guidance.
