Sometimes the best souvenir is a taste you cannot forget. While working as a guide in Iceland’s West Fjords, Sam discovered a handmade energy bar at a local café. It became the kind of snack he kept thinking about long after the first bite.

When he moved to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, he looked for something that hit the same spot. The options he found were not quite what he wanted, so he took the idea into his own kitchen and started working on a recipe.

A Bar Worth Bringing Home

Sam wanted recognizable ingredients and a bar that tasted good without relying on added oils or preservatives. He was also thinking about the packaging left behind after a snack, and the place of those small choices in an outdoor life.

The recipe became his Original bar. What began as a personal search turned into a side gig, with Sam working out of a paddleboard shop in Steamboat. It was a fitting place for a snack made to come along for the day.

As the side project grew, Sam needed a hand. His childhood best friend, Jason, asked whether he wanted to turn it into a full-time venture together. Sam’s answer was an enthusiastic “ABSOLUTELY.”
