Grooming Lounge: Barbershop Know-How, Everyday Character

Before Grooming Lounge was a business, Mike Gilman was already the person his friends turned to for grooming products. In 1999, he decided to make that unofficial role official.

Drawing on a background in men’s grooming and fashion, he set out to connect three things: a place to shop, a place to get expert care, and a collection of custom-blended products.

The idea had room for practical advice and a little irreverence. After all, this is a founder whose biography makes space for being voted “Best Camper” at Camp Inverness in 1981.

The Shop Became Part Of The Story

Grooming Lounge’s first upscale Barbershop + Men’s Spa opened in March 2002. It brought haircuts, hot-lather shaves, manicures, and skincare into the same setting as the products.

That connection is central to the brand’s identity. Its own-name collection was conceptualized, developed, and tested with barbers and men’s skincare professionals in the shops, giving the bathroom shelf a direct connection to the barber’s chair.

Skincare Without A Puzzle

Mug Cleaner is the face-wash option, Mug Scrubber is the exfoliator, and Mug Moisturizer is the lightweight, oil-free facial moisturizer. Similar names do not mean the same job.

Use the wash according to its directions and reserve exfoliation for the frequency your skin tolerates within the scrub’s guidance. There is no need to scrub harder or more often to get a cleaner feeling.

Eye Captain offers a separate caffeine-containing eye-area formula. If you add it, follow its directions and keep the product out of your eyes.

The Best Shampoo takes a peppermint-scented cleansing direction. You Need Conditioner is a separate conditioning product, and Some Hair Cream provides a lightweight styling option for a tidy, less obviously styled look.

Find Your Fragrance Direction

Our Best Smeller puts black pepper at the center of its body-care identity, with warm vanilla notes. The cologne expands that direction with citrus and clove at the opening, pepper and leather at the heart, and vetiver, amber, musk, and vanilla among the base notes.

Handsome Devil EDT offers another profile: bergamot, cranberry, and pink pepper lead into lavender, orange blossom, and sage, with sandalwood, coumarin, and vetiver underneath.
