Auburn Red

Colour Me Organic Premium

Certified Organic Hair Colour Powder · 3.5oz

The red henna gives on its own. Six organic herbs, and this is the only shade we make where henna comes first on the ingredient list. There is no manjistha in it either — nothing else in the pouch is making red.

Day one will look wrong. After a faint green cast at the rinse, this shade goes bright orange for a day — much brighter than the auburn you ordered. It deepens and cools over days two and three. Don't judge it on the first evening.

Hair darker than Auburn Red will not take it. We have tested it. Plant colour adds and never lifts, so dark melanin stays underneath and wins. This shade is for light to medium brown, blonde or greying hair.

What "100% organic" means here

Not 99%, not 99.9% — every herb in the pouch is certified organic, and there is no base powder or carrier underneath them. Each shade is vacuum-sealed to slow oxidation before you open it, and shipped by air from our production facility in India so newer stock reaches you.

Embrace the Timeless Beauty of Auburn Red

Auburn Red sits between red and brown — deep enough to read as natural, warm enough to catch the light. Indoors it reads as a grounded auburn; in daylight the copper comes forward. Because plant pigment layers over the colour you already have instead of replacing it, your own variation stays underneath, which is why it shifts between rooms rather than returning one flat tone.

How it differs from chemical colour

Red is the colour a bottle loses fastest. Red pigment molecules are the smallest and least light-stable of the lot — and once the cuticle has been lifted to put them in, it never closes back the way it was. That leaves an open route out, which is why a chemical red gets redone more often than any other shade.

Nothing is opened to put this colour there. Lawsone forms a covalent bond with keratin in the outer layers, so it wears as the hair wears rather than rinsing out. That's the whole trade: it costs you the option of going lighter, and saves you everything that comes with it.

  • Powder-based organic colour for men and women
  • Certified organic by ECOCERT
  • No peroxide, ammonia, PPD, parabens or synthetic pigment
  • Works on light to medium brown, blonde or greying hair — it will not show on hair darker than this shade
  • Colours grey most vividly of all; on darker hair that reads as highlights
  • At-home application, no developer to mix
  • Not suitable for anyone with a known indigo or plant-dye allergy — patch test first

What to expect over three days

  • Right after rinsing — a faint green cast over the warmth. That's the indigo before it has met the air. Temporary.
  • First 12 to 24 hours — the green clears and it goes bright orange, much brighter than the finished shade. This is the stage that worries people, and it is normal.
  • Days two and three — deepens and cools into auburn. Judge your colour here.

Do not blow-dry. Not while the paste is on, and not for the first 24 hours after rinsing. Dry the paste and nothing transfers; dry the hair afterwards and the colour stalls at that raw day-one orange. Shower cap while it processes, air-dry after.

Auburn Red or Copper Brown?

Both are red-brown, and the difference is which way they lean. Auburn Red runs deeper and truer red, with less gold in it. Copper Brown runs orange-gold — the warmer, brighter of the two, and the one that shows more on darker hair.

There is no version of these photos on dark brown or black hair — we tested it, and the red doesn't show. Within lighter hair, depth still shifts with your starting colour, grey percentage, porosity and processing time.
